KOTA KINABALU – The seminar titled “Empowering Library Leadership: Smart System, Collaborative Solutions and AI Innovation” was successfully held at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), bringing together library professionals, academics, and industry experts for a meaningful exchange of ideas.

The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Prof. Datuk Dr. Rossita Shapawi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) of UMS, who highlighted the importance of adaptive leadership in libraries. She emphasised the need to embrace smart systems, strengthen collaboration, and leverage artificial intelligence to remain relevant in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

Among the distinguished attendees was Encik Zawawi Datuk Tiyunin, Chief Librarian of UMS, whose presence underscored the university’s commitment to advancing library excellence and innovation.

The seminar featured presentations from seven speakers comprising academic leaders and industry experts. Prof. Dr. Afandi Ahmad, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, shared valuable insights alongside directors, managers, and researchers from OCLC, focusing on collaborative solutions and AI-driven innovations in library services.

The programme also included an international perspective from Asst. Prof. Dr. Sarawoot Watechagit of Mahidol University, Thailand, enriching discussions through cross-border insights on technology and innovation.

A unique highlight of the seminar was the presentation of a traditional Podong (Sigar) to all speakers, symbolising identity, dignity, and respect while showcasing Sabah’s rich cultural heritage.

Overall, the seminar served as a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, strengthening professional networks, and reinforcing the importance of innovation and collaboration in shaping the future of library leadership.
